I have been neglecting this little space I have here for myself and my work. There's no need for that anymore. This past weekend I graduated from Art Center with my BFA in Illustration. I am still recovering from the madness of this past term, but have come to the realization that even though I will miss the place, it was time to get out and move on. For our Grad show, my talented friends and I put our bodies of work up in the hallways at school.

The opening of "Come home before Dark" was last Saturday at Active Ride Shop in Valencia, Ca.
Anna Topuriya and I headed out there to see what was going on.

I have been wanting to draw cows and bulls for a while.
I don't know why sometimes I get urges to draw certain things.
Before the cows, it was houses (still sort of is houses.)
I finally got my chance to make a finished piece with a cow in it a few weeks ago.
This piece got the cows and bulls out of my system.

September 10th was the opening of a group show I am a part of at J+K Gallery in Arcadia. The theme of the show is "Process" and deals with unveiling the process that the artist goes through to get to a finished piece. I submitted finished pieces as well as photographs that show some of my process.

because, well... I had my camera with me, but like I always do, I forgot to use it.

This is my wall showing for scholarship this term.
This is work I've done in the last few months.
A recurrent theme that i have been working on (consciously and subconsciously) is the idea of the human body as landscape.
I feel as if I'm barely scratching the surface on this topic.
I will continue to explore it.

So for a while I was(and still am) fascinated by the kind of images I've been getting by scanning myself. I've been using myself as a model, because it's easier then to try to direct someone else.

At first I was doing them to use them as reference, but I think I got to the point where I feel that the scans speak for themselves. I don't think that they need to be translated into a drawing or painting. Aside from a little color correction and some cropping, I'm enjoying them as they are.

This piece is a portrait of Robin Pecknold of the Fleet Foxes. What I really liked about drawing him was that his hair is brown and his beard is red. Does that happen a lot? I don't know, but it's pretty cool. The first picture is the comp and the second is the final.

End of Off Term

I've had a lot of freedom these past 14 weeks.
I don't have a lot of finished work to show for it, though.
I'm not upset about that.
I'm actually happy that i got to experiment,
and not be forced to commit to anything.
Going from one thing to the next and not feeling pressured to
'have' to finish it is great.
That said, at this point, i feel more sure about where I want my work to go,
and what I want it to look like.

Ok, so I think i might have forgotten about this thing, buuuut, I just membered.
So I say, enough foolishness. This term is going to be awesome!! I'm really excited about the work that Im gonna be making this term. It's all alot of fun already, I'm not too stressed, although I think a little stress is healthy and gives you (me) a kick in the ass.
So, I have been and am going to continue to contribute to this blog called Sunday and Wednesday. It is a Blog I was introduced to by mah good friend Graham who attends Rochester Institute of Technology and primarily consists of photographers and all east-coasters. So, this blog seems to be less about showing just the finished product, but also starting conversations about the process of art making and how the finished product is acheived. I'm very happy to be part of this because I think it might be something i dont do much. I dont write dowm my process, most of the time, I work intuitively and in some level, am unconscious of the reasoning behind the decisions I make. Soooo, yeah, that's what's going on. back to work, but I'll leave with this bad picture of a self portrait.

moh work up. i decided that the previous post of this painting sucked. so here's a much better picture of the painting. the colors arent washed out, so yay.

This is from fear and obsession project for jason holley. i absolutely hate pigeons and i love drawing hair. these are details of my favorite parts. the man braiding the pigeon hair is really twisted even for me, but i love how it came out. instead of helping medeal w the pigeon problem, i think it got worst. oh well, i guess i'll just get more messed up and make more interesting art. it's all graphite and took a lot out of me, but was totally worth it.

These pieces are from image and idea. The assignment was to illustrate the word suffering. suffering , as opposed to pain, has a sense of time, of a long duration, so i tried to work that into the piece by showing glimpses of the day in the life of one man. The suffering he feels and the suffering he causes.
